The DDOS was done by “SN_blackmeta”, it’s a Russian organization that claims to be pro-palestine. They say they did it in protest against the way Palestinians are treated. The hackers behind the data breach are unknown afaik.

My guess is it was a pretty organized group either corporate or govt backed who did it as a cover to delete something that was archived they needed gone.

Why did they advertise that leak and cybersec advertising service Have I Been Pwned in the breach? Why did they hack a site where I literally just store websites? Why did they claim it was for Palestine? Seems like stupid fed shit to me. Also funnily enough I didn’t even really need to change my password since I only had a few website saves and used a burner email

There’s a current ongoing effort to hack an infiltrate as many things visibly as possible. They’re trying really hard to destabilize as many things as they can perhaps leading up to the US elections perhaps making headway more who the fuck knows. In any case they are turning over as many stones as possible.

I think the most likely culprits would be the publishers who have been going after them, or the intelligence firms which are annoyed with archive showing up in their surveillance graphs and being one of the most accessible forms of news media piracy. I don’t feel like I have the full picture.

Somebody’s either funded or otherwise convinced a whole bunch of different hacking organizations to go after everything not nailed down. It’s not just archive.org there’s been so many breaches and exploits in zero days that came out of the woodwork in the past 30 to 60 days. It certainly could be unrelated, But there’s a monumental amount of hacking going on right now.
