    ❗️EU weighs diesel release as prices hit record highs

    The European Union is discussing with all members of the International Energy Agency (IEA), including the US, when to release diesel reserves as fuel prices surge across the bloc, EU Energy Commissioner Dan Jorgensen said Friday.

    “This is one of the opportunities that we have, we have used it before and it is likely that we would use it again,” Jorgensen told Euronews.

    European Commission data showed that diesel prices have reached new all-time highs in 12 EU member states, including Italy, Belgium, Romania and Poland, since the start of the US-Israeli war on Iran.

    ❗️EU rejects US threat to ban diesel exports over European fuel reserves

    The European Union today “fully rejected” a US threat to ban diesel exports if European countries do not release more of their fuel reserves, European Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen said.

    “A ban would not be beneficial to anyone. It would undermine our trust in the United States as a reliable partner,” Itkonen said, according to Reuters. She added that the EU’s Oil Coordination Group is scheduled to meet on 15 October, but could convene earlier if necessary.

    The European Commission said separately on Friday that EU diesel supplies remain stable for now, although prices remain high amid tight global markets. The bloc is also coordinating with the International Energy Agency over the release of oil stocks.
