I see communities with almost no posts and the only moderator deleted their account. Shouldn’t these be deleted?
Why would they?
I think abandoned communities just spend server space, right? This and unused accounts.
Unless it was a hugely popular community with years and years of content posted to it, not just text but videos and photos etc, the server space some text posts and usernames take up is a rounding error.
An inactive community barely uses any space
Personal opinion: despite being empty and inactive, these comunities are still some sort of a history. And history is not deleted here unless it is strictly against rules. + I haven’t seen that admins are able to delete accounts or communities here at all, only ban them.

Makes sense. Decentralized thing
I see no problem. As a user, I can just sort by most active communities when searching them.
Deleting communities to free server space also means deleting our history, doesn’t seem very nice.
