❗️Iran secures two-day early US entry ahead of match against Egypt following backlash over restrictions

The US Department of Homeland Security has allowed Iran’s national football team to enter the United States two days before its World Cup match against Egypt in Seattle on 26 June, easing previous travel restrictions that forced the team to arrive shortly before matches and leave immediately afterward.
The decision comes after repeated complaints from Iran’s coaching staff and players, who said visa complications, tight travel schedules, and constant cross-border movement between Mexico and the US had severely disrupted their preparations.
Iran had previously planned to file a complaint with FIFA after being denied permission to arrive earlier for its match against Belgium.
Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei said his team had played a “beautiful game” under the “worst possible conditions” following a 0-0 draw with Belgium, citing inadequate preparation time and logistical difficulties.
The team, which moved its World Cup base camp from Arizona to Tijuana, Mexico, will still be required to leave the US immediately after its match against Egypt.

Iran has played exceptionally well this world cup, even if their defense could be much better. Many, including my relatives, were confident Iran would lose the game against Belgium, but to everyone’s surprise, they were probably more likely to win, had it not been for their goal being considered off-sides. I’m quite excited for the game with Egypt, regardless of who wins (though I’m obviously rooting for Iran). I expect it to be a great showing nonetheless.
