So what is in “The Deal with Islamic Republic of Iran”?
If you’re confused, it’s normal: the US and Iran already publicly disagree on what they agreed to, and it’s not even a “deal”: just a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that sets the terms for negotiating the actual deal within the next 60 days.
We do, however, know a few things:
- Israel is actively trying to undermine the deal - for instance by striking Beirut yesterday Sunday.
Israeli media say that the deal is causing “profound concern among Israeli officials,” that “Israel, despite having started the war alongside the US, was not involved in the negotiations,” and that “the deal do[es] not achieve the goals of the war that were set out by the US and Israel” (timesofisrael.com/us-iran-re…).
That last part is clear: the very existence of this MOU proves the objectives of the war were not met, as they certainly didn’t include the US negotiating an exit with an undefeated Iran while Israel is freaking out about it on the sidelines.
-
We know, because both parties and Pakistan (the mediator) confirmed it, that a finalized MOU does exist and that it’s due to be formally signed on Friday in Switzerland by JD Vance and maybe Trump himself (Vance told Fox News: “I certainly plan to be there, but it’s possible the president himself could be there” nbcnews.com/news/us-news/dea…)
-
We know Trump ordered the US naval blockade to be lifted (supposedly today, Monday)
-
The Strait of Hormuz will reopen on the Iranian side (though both parties publicly spun the terms differently - Trump says “toll-free,” Iran’s FM Araghchi says with “service fees”)
-
The war would end on all fronts including Lebanon - both sides used this exact phrase. Israel, obviously, is trying hard to spoil this.
-
Some form of sanctions relief is included - Iran speaks of “termination of all sanctions” (fortune.com/2026/06/14/iran-…) and a senior US official confirmed the structure is “Iran would earn economic rewards each time it met a set of US demands”
-
The MOU apparently does not agree on anything wrt nuclear, just that it will be discussed during the 60-day negotiation window, with Iran maintaining its current nuclear status quo in the meantime
-
In fact I suspect the MOU defers most things truly contested - like nuclear - to later negotiations while resolving in the immediate only the problems the war itself created: stop shooting, reopen the strait (under updated Iranian rules), and lift the blockade.
Which means that, most likely, this “deal” is - at this stage - less a deal than an acknowledgement of the new status quo reached in the war. It differs from the April 5 ceasefire in that, this time, the US is lifting all coercion it introduced in the war - including the naval blockade it imposed on April 13.
So in effect the war had two phases of failed coercion (military, then economic with the blockade), and the MOU formalizes the failure of both.
In exchange what the US is getting is a conversation about its initial stated war objectives (like nuclear), which it will now have to pursue after having proven it cannot impose them by force.
Needless to say, you don’t get better terms at the table after showing you couldn’t get them on the battlefield 🤷

The excuses are getting more elaborate
I don’t understand why Iran doesn’t also make “Honor your ceasefire in Gaza” part of its negotiations. It makes me sad. They’re just going to keep starving Gaza.

All sounds pretty reasonable to me. If conceding with regards to nukes is what it takes for the US to save face and call what happened mission accomplished then that sounds fair enough to me, Iran has already proven it can handle whatever the US and Israel can throw at them without need of nukes. If the reparations and lifting of sanctions stick then that’s a massive win for Iran considering that US assets in the region are now left in shambles.
It’s not even a concession when Iran has been saying for decades it doesn’t want nukes. We may not like or agree with that stance but that has been their documented stance for a long time, and it’s not even possible to say that was just rhetorical posturing because if they really wanted to they would have had both means and ample opportunity (as well as justification and motivation following the repeated unprovoked Anglo-Zionist attacks) to build nuclear weapons.
I sometimes wonder if they think they simply don’t need them to fight nukes. China and allies have cheap, effective drones and hypersonic missiles that the US doesn’t and cannot have, along with other possible stuff we’re not aware of. Maybe they’re confident in their ability to intercept possible nukes.

BREAKING | Secretariat of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council
"In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful
To the noble people of Iran: The Islamic Republic of Iran, under the leadership of its martyred leader, has completed its victory over the American-Zionist enemy.
Through the guidance of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Khamenei (may God protect him), the support of the free people, and the devoted efforts of the fighters of Islam, and following a difficult and intensive period of negotiations spanning several months, a memorandum of understanding regarding the end of the war (the Islamabad negotiations) between Iran and the United States was finalized on 24 Khordad.
According to the agreements reached, the war and military operations on all fronts, including Lebanon, will end immediately and permanently. In addition, the maritime blockade imposed against Iran will be lifted completely and without delay.
The signing of this memorandum of understanding will take place officially on Friday, 29 Khordad (19 June). Negotiations toward a final agreement will be entrusted to the implementation by the opposing side of the commitments stipulated in the memorandum of understanding.
The Islamic Republic of Iran expresses its appreciation for the efforts of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the State of Qatar.
Peace, God’s mercy, and His blessings be upon you."

🇮🇷🇺🇸| According to Fars, in a few minutes the official statement of the Secretariat of Iran’s SNSC regarding the MoU agreement will be published.
Fars says after the attack on Beirut, Iran cancelled its negotiations and prepared to attack the Zionist regime.
However, in the end, with last-minute concessions offered by Trump, including preserving Lebanon’s territorial integrity, Israel’s withdrawal from Lebanon’s borders, and the immediate lifting of the blockade … Iran was persuaded to refrain from carrying out its attack.
It was also agreed that the legal framework for passage through the waters of the Persian Gulf would be regulated in cooperation between Iran and Oman.

🇮🇷🇺🇸| Gharibabadi, Deputy Foreign Minister:
On Friday, there will be an official signing, and the heads of the 2 delegations will hold talks to determine the future arrangements of the negotiations.
Until then, the American side’s commitments regarding ending the war, lifting the siege, and releasing assets will be verified.
Entering the 60-day negotiations is conditional on the implementation of these American commitments.

🇮🇷🇺🇸| Gharibabadi:
We would not have agreed to the MoU unless all the final points we demanded were included in the text of the agreement.
The negotiations continued until just one hour ago.
@FotrosResistancee
🇮🇱🇺🇸🇱🇧🇮🇷 NEW: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told President Trump that Israeli forces will not withdraw from Lebanon and that Israel does not consider itself bound by the Lebanon clause in the US-Iran MoU, according to Maariv.
And that’s the end of the MoU.

I mean this is expected at this point. Israel will assuredly fuck up any attempt at peace, no matter the seemingly inevitability of any deal. The war will end when the capacity of the Zionist state to monopolize violence over the occupied territories is utterly diminished.
— 🇺🇸/🇮🇷/🇱🇧 NEW: Some Iranian sources say that America was forced to issue ‘new and serious concessions regarding Lebanon’ in exchange for not responding to the attack on Beirut
Apparently Iran’s Parliament Speaker Qalibaf announced the suspension of negotiations to Trump via Qatar, and Trump then directly intervened to offer more concessions to avoid collapsing the deal.
These concessions are related to Lebanon, and also the immediate lifting of the U.S. blockade instead of within 30 days (this is already confirmed)
This was reported by Reformist-affiliated ‘Entekhab’, so time will tell whether this is true or not.

🇮🇷🇺🇸| Gharibabadi:
The end of all sanctions against Iran, both primary & secondary sanctions, as well as the termination of UN Security Council and Board of Governors resolutions, will be among the topics negotiated within the 60-day period.
All sanctions will be lifted if a final agreement is reached [not this MoU]
The second topic to be negotiated within 60 days is the nuclear issue.
The topic of reconstruction and economic development will also be negotiated during these 60 days, and its mechanism will be finalized.
Another topic is determining the executive mechanism for monitoring the proper implementation of the parties’ commitments.
@FotrosResistancee
🇮🇷🇺🇸| Gharibabadi:
2 immediate events will happen from early this morning:
-
An immediate end to the war on various fronts including Lebanon.
-
The next event is the lifting of the naval blockade.
@FotrosResistancee
-
The second topic to be negotiated within 60 days is the nuclear issue.
In some ways it would be best to not have to discuss anything about nuclear related topics, but saying that it needs to be agreed upon within 60 days while Iran is with the finger on the trigger and in a winning position might be the second best way of dealing with this.
Just hope they don’t let any more attacks on their allies slide during that time.
Breaking my rule about solidarity with the resistance's decisions.
Fuck you reformers. If you don’t hit israel you lose credibility. You have to follow through on your threats regardless of any promises from usa. Why do you dumb fuck believe what they say? Hit the fucking genocidal zionist shits or you are just a bunch of cucks. usa will not honor its commitment. if you dont hit israel they are tricking you into not honoring your commitments.
Starting to think the reformists were able to get their way this time. I doubt Israel will honour this deal, but it’s an infuriating reminder that Iran isn’t socialist, and still has to pander to its own Bourgeoise that finds its interests more aligned with the West than the IRGC

❗️Leading medical journal The Lancet publishes call to expel Israeli Medical Association over Gaza genocide
Expand
Medical journal The Lancet has published a petition calling for the Israeli Medical Association to be boycotted and expelled from the World Medical Association over its failure to condemn what the petition describes as Israel’s genocide against Palestinians and the collapse of Gaza’s healthcare system.
The campaign, launched by the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, Healthcare Workers for Palestine, and Doctors for Gaza, has so far received support from more than 1,150 healthcare professionals and medical organizations. The call for expulsion is expected to be raised at the World Medical Association’s general assembly in October.
The Israeli Medical Association opposed the move, arguing that its expulsion would not advance peace, healthcare, or human rights, and would instead create a precedent for using political pressure campaigns to isolate healthcare workers based on their nationality.

🇮🇷🇺🇸| Mehr News has released a short version of the 14-clauses of the MoU that will be signed on Friday, between Iran & US.
-
The permanent and immediate halt of war on all fronts, including Lebanon.
-
A U.S. commitment not to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs and to respect the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
-
The complete lifting of the naval blockade within 30 days.
-
A U.S. commitment to withdraw its forces from the areas surrounding Iran.
-
The reopening of the Strait of Hormuz within 30 days under Iranian “arrangements”.
-
The suspension of oil sanctions, petrochemical products and derivatives, and Iran’s full access to the financial proceeds from them.
-
The requirement for the US & its allies to present reconstruction plans for Iran worth at least $300 billion.
-
Sixty days of negotiations to reach a final agreement based on nuclear issues and the complete lifting of primary and secondary U.S. sanctions, as well as UN Security Council resolutions and resolutions of the IAEA Board of Governors.
-
Iran’s reiteration of its commitment under the NPT not to produce nuclear weapons.
-
During the negotiation period, the U.S. has committed not to add to its forces in the region and not to impose any new sanctions.
-
The release of $24 billion of Iran’s frozen funds during the 60-day period of final negotiations. Half of this amount must be made available to Iran before the negotiations begin.
-
The formation of a supervisory mechanism to implement the agreement.
-
The final agreement will be approved through a UN Security Council resolution.
-
Final negotiations will not begin before half of Iran’s frozen funds are released, Iran’s oil sanctions are suspended, and the naval blockade is lifted. The final agreement will be limited only to the fate of enriched materials and enrichment, sanctions relief, and the program for rebuilding Iran’s economy. Discussions about Iran’s missile program and support for Resistance groups have been definitively removed from the agenda.
@FotrosResistancee
The complete lifting of the naval blockade within 30 days.
Professor Marandi disputes this claim and says the blockade will be lifted immediately
I believe that as well, at least according to the majority of sources I’ve seen.
