China has been diversifying its He imports since at least 2024
China has a deal with Qatar who produce about 30% of the worlds He. Some sources say that is where they have been getting most of their He recently. Russia is also a He producer with around 5% of world production and large reserves they have yet to tap.
Iran is also a potential source for He because they have access to the same gas field that Qatar gets its He from. In the long term if Iran destroys Qatari gas extraction China can just invest in Iran’s He production and get their He for even cheaper.
