- Wasn’t friendica it? I don’t need a replacement for Facebook. Barely use Facebook as it is. I was one of the few people that stood on them axing the chronological friends only feed. Once they fucked that up, I just said wow, Facebook is full of crap I don’t care about now. Guess I don’t need to use it. - Tbh, to me, a replacement for facebook is what I’m looking most for. I used to use facebook a lot to organise stuff with different friend-groups, and now that most people don’t ever use it, that’s a lot harder. - Facebook was the de-facto primary communication channel for organising events or coordinating hobby groups. It honestly makes me sad that they broke it to the point where I have a hard time inviting old friends that live out of town to a summer party or something. Likewise, I have a hard time being invited to stuff because I practically never check facebook. - Friendica may take over facebooks role at some point, but it’s nowhere close yet. I made an account just to be on there for if/when it starts taking off. I hope the gap is filled sooner rather than later. - Yeah, Facebook was great when it actually connected people together. Now it’s just a cesspool of AI slop and boomers - EXACTLY! I can’t believe that I’ve basically forgotten how the function of “social media” at a point in the not-too-distant past was actually to help real people stay in touch and organise real social events… how did we even end up where we are now? There was a golden age for a couple years where stuff like facebook brought a net positive to the world. Just makes me sad to think about where we ended up…

- Friendica? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friendica
- Twitter/X to Bluesky - Why do you flee a billionaire owned centralized platform only to go to an other billionaire owned centralized platform? (Yes, I know that in theory Bluesky is federated, but as long as there aren’t alternatives to the official server(s) Bluesky is effectively a centralized platform). Use Mastodon/Akkoma/Pleroma/whatever, you’re already on the fediverse through lemmy, might as well go with a full fediverse suite. - Also, a facebook alternative would be Friendica from what I’ve seen, but I’m not on it so don’t take my words for it and go see for yourself.
- In my social circles, people have moved from Facebook to Instagram and WhatsApp. To be honest, it’s a different UI but the same algorithmic overlords. - The thing with Facebook/Meta is that it’s not just one thing. It’s a lot of different things under one umbrella. In general, the replacement for Meta is the Fediverse. But you need to be specific about which features you want to replace. - For long form posts, I’ve set up my own blog using Ghost. Ghost also has passable Fediverse support now, though it’s still missing a lot of features.
- Facebook kinda relied on having everyone on it. If there was a viable replacement, we’d know about it already
