I run an old Roomba that’s offline. It works perfectly fine without being connected to anything. It’s a vacuum, not everything needs to be smart. I’ll upgrade at some point and not let the new device on the Internet either
Makes sense but it’s still annoying. Thanks for the heads up
Lemmy in general blocks posts from vpns which is total bullshit but I can still view with vpn
Edit: in my experience anyhow. Also added bold for bs

I don’t think having a server somewhere is necessarily a bad thing. If you choose to use that server it’s up to you.

This is a couple of weeks old but still WTF Norway Prince

I’m a big fan of mullvad

It might have been fluxer but I’m not positive. I’ve been looking at all of the options because I need an alternative so there’s lots of mixed info in my brain. I should have started a spreadsheet

Read the privacy policies too. I can’t remember which one I was reading yesterday but it read like they were going to monitor every word I said… All the while saying they are privacy advocates and based in Europe

Yeah I’ve tried both. Stoat looks good and seems like the best option for similar organization but matrix seems better in terms of privacy. If matrix wasn’t so clumsy it would be hands down the best option.

Is there a new "default"platform everyone is moving to? I’m kind of surprised there isn’t an open source discord clone that comes with e2e encryption. I’m not tech savvy enough to understand the challenges involved I’m sure.
Maybe try The Fisherman by John Langan. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fisherman_(novel)
I usually read sci Fi stuff but that was a good horror mysterious one.

I thought of another gripe. Mint works great but the logo is horrible. Sorry to whatever graphic designer I just insulted. I literally jumped distros because I was sick of seeing it.

Bazzite. Internal Bluetooth sucks so I have an external USB Bluetooth. Certain devices refuse to respect that I don’t want to use internal Bluetooth and bazzite frequently turns it back on. I shouldn’t have to go into config files to fix this. I get it, it’s Linux, sometimes you need to but for mass adoption things like this should be a toggle in gui. Hell, maybe it’s in the gui somewhere. I fiddled with it long enough to give up for now

I don’t mind an AI summary with references when I search. I do not like ai in almost any other context. Ai has ruined the internet with garbage click bait and fluff articles.
I asked a very similar question a few days ago! Maybe the replies can help you. I ended up going with the kobo libra color https://lemmy.world/post/39547621

Off topic but in the middle of a PC build. I’ve not used 11 but may need it and planning a dual boot. Is it possible to remove all the spyware and ai junk or will it just repopulate itself?

Gym most mornings before work

I’ve had a surface tablet since 2017. I had to take it to a repair shop to replace the battery but it’s surprisingly still doing pretty good. It’s light , does most of what I need day to day, and more durable than expected.
At one point I had a beefy gaming laptop with upgradeable everything and it was good for what it was but honestly, the surface was cheaper and has lasted longer which is shocking to me.
Yes Linux rules and Microsoft sucks. Just saying the armored upgradeable computers are still limited by motherboards and necessarily integrated systems. Not to mention they aren’t at all convenient for day to day use
Refried beans mixed with Fritos. Really thick but good
Your lucky. I haven’t seen prices like that in years. We’re around $5 in the northwest us
