  • Check their post history. They’re at best, totally ignorant to the nature of the fediverse and at worst trolling or astroturfing.

Peertube works great. It probably needs better moderation federation same as mastodon (as a mastodon admin you need to download and maintain your own blocklists which is quite tedious).

What we need is the option to automate blocks. If the instances you follow have converging bans, your instance should be able to copy them and that way have bans federate through the system and have trolls and other scum get the boot everywhere.

Source: I host mastodon, lemmy, peertube and matrix instances.

  • I can relate to this. A LOT of very successful people have varying amounts of skeletons in their closets.

I would probably not be able to buy an album or recommend it to anyone in that case but grudgingly accept that they make great art is on the table for me.

To determine the best course of action, I‘d analyze their transgression (aiding a seditionist, working towards disinforming people about a deadly disease, the latter which constitutes murder in my book) and if thats not enough, exchange it for more heinous and obvious crimes to check what my moral compass says then. If it spikes (and I know it does for me) I‘d keep away from that artist but accept if I start vibing when they’re played in the radio.

  • As someone who has a semi-direct connection to ukrainian refugees: yes, they absolutely get the „white treatment“. But this has nothing to do with russophobia. Russia is as much the devil as google is. Same goes for china.

The issue with differently looking people with different religious views and non-central-european cultural values does correctly register as foreign. Everyone who says different lacks reflection.

It is the fact that people treat foreign as lesser that makes this world suck. We lack forced scientific education in public television. People who have no intention to read and educate themselves need to be taught that the earth is round, what fascists did to people and why you should wear a mask in tight public spaces, especially in winter time or if youre sick.

And the most disturbing part is that dividing left/right only helps those in power stay in power.

  • Good question imo.

Apart from the fact that your points are valid, they are also connected to reddit being held by a singular entity imo.

    • more users
    • more streamlined
    • more niche stuff
    • more mainstream stuff

As you already stated: reddit monetizes every word you write and everything you write is at risk to being paywalled/removed not because it is political or breaks the rules but because it is helpful.

The amount of harm the corporate social media has caused and will be able to cause in the future is immense.

Being in the medical field may help you understand how important it is to keep people from harm. Some of the people you treat may have been physically harmed by a psychopath. Big companies are known to behave exactly like this. If harming you makes them money, they will.

And besides, you don’t need to leave reddit entirely. You should definitely read the stuff you need there, but you could make it a habit to always try and post helpful advice in the fediverse/on lemmy so that your content stays in case corpo paywall.

Part of contributing to the democratic discourse (like voting) is screaming into the void and waiting for someone to listen. But if youre persistent, people will listen
