  • A hotel in Augusta, Georgia. I had to come into town for a 2 week training event for my job. Unfortunately, it was occurring at the same time as the Master’s tournament, so finding a hotel was virtually impossible. The one my work booked for me was easily in the top 3 grossest accommodations I’ve ever had, and I’ve deployed to combat zones in the Army. Waking up in the middle of the night to my bed and walls covered in roaches still haunts me to this day. And when I say covered, I don’t mean a few. I mean covered.

Sometimes this one place gives me $20 of food before closing when I only intended to spend $5 so the upsell kinda hurts

But that upsell is strictly self-inflicted. If it’s before closing, I can almost guarantee the staff are just hooking you up because a large amount of that food is just going to go to waste since most restaurants require things to get thrown away (e.g. if it’s a deli, some of the meats may have hit their shelf life limit).

I’d just tip what you can comfortably afford and what you feel isn’t insulting (e.g. tipping someone like $0.50 on a $20+ order). I always follow the 15-20% rule, and possibly higher in some circumstances. But I don’t know, I haven’t worked food in 20 years, so maybe the manners/expectations have changed nowadays. Also depends where you live.

I’d argue it’s capitalism without guardrails for consumer and worker protections that’s more problematic than capitalism itself. Just like with socialism, if it isn’t implemented and/or continually protected correctly, it eventually spirals into degeneracy.

And I’d like for society to avoid violence as much as possible. Anyone that throws that out as an option without heavy hesitation are those that haven’t experienced the horrors of open warfare/ violence at scale.

What can he even do, short of doing the exact same thing Trump did on Jan 6th and essentially starting off open, armed conflict? Anything he tries to pass now will be immediately thrown out after Jan 20th. Increase SCOTUS seats? GOP will either just undo it or add even more to counteract it. He can’t make new laws, he can only do executive orders, which Trump can easily undo. So again, that leaves only violence, and we all know that won’t play out well, since that’d pretty much require Biden to kill off enough politicians, including Trump and Vance, to give the Democrats the majority in both the House and Senate. Outside of being unlikely, that sets a really dangerous precedent that would definitely backfire down the road.

Bottom line is that politicians aren’t going to fix this, since the root of the problem lies within the electorate.

  • Is this a real screenshot or just an out of context meme? I’ve never seen this prompt when installing other browsers on any of my PCs running Windows 10 over the last 7+ years of it being out.

Edit: It seems to be real. That is craziness. I also realized that all my licenses are Professional or Enterprise (those only on my work-issued devices), so I’m assuming that’s why I’ve never seen it. Like the other comment pointed out, they had their feet put to the fire over simply bundling Internet Explorer in the late 90s, yet nowadays they get away with this shit.

The answer to our wealth disparity is to put power in the hands of the average person.

Average voter: “Ugh, all the power and responsibility is too much work. Can’t we just elect someone that takes care of all of this for us?” Congress/parliaments are born. “Ugh, keeping track of all these politicians and their policies and waiting for them to enact laws is too slow and tedious. Can’t we just elect some sort of super politician that promises to take care of all our problems quickly?”

  • I’m not arguing that it’s a W. I’m saying that much of the reason we’re in this hyper polarized society now is due to echo chambers. If we refuse to engage with those we disagree with, then you’re falling into the exact same trap. The entire platform isn’t only Musk/MAGA supporters. It’s toxic and awful, but so is TikTok and Facebook yet millions still use them every day.

  • Unfortunately, without anyone of note calling him out on that platform, it turns into pure echo chamber cult activity. There are so, so many people that are like lemmings, that will just follow that flow without doing any personal reflection or critical thinking. It’s healthy to have voices of dissent, even if it’s indirectly helping/enabling someone that’s cultivating mindlessness among the masses. Hell, just look at how his idiotic response has over 2 million “likes”. Granted, I’m sure 70-80% of those are fake, but that’s still a frightening number of people who support someone like him.
