Yeah I followed the instructions there and it worked without an issue for several weeks and then just stopped working.

But what’s strange is that it worked with proton experimental untill this point and that I had this exact same issue earlier on Windows 7 aswell on this same PC. I however did try using proton 8 but that made no difference. I need to try those other versions too
I have checked all drivers, atleast I think I have, and have rebooted the system many times. Even took off the power cord for a minute
I did get the “Processing vulcan shaders” pop-up sometimes when I opened the game (back when it was still working) So I should not be using the Proton experimental? It worked just fine untill now. That’s what’s so strange about it. I do have an old PC but my GPU is brand new though.
I’m trying to re-install steam right now but it’s been uninstalling it for about an hour and doesn’t seem to be progressing anywhere…
I’ve been using Linux for only a couple of weeks and all this is complete hebrew to me. I have no clue what is snap version of steam.
Interestingly that file doesn’t seem to be located in the location you mentioned but rather: home/snap/steam/common/.steam/steamapps/steam/comptdata
There is no steam folder at “share”
I’ll try deleting that anyways. I’ll report back in a moment
EDIT: Nope, nothing.
I installed DayZ Experimental and I have the same issue with that. I haven’t tried with other games as I have none installed.
Trying to run steam via terminal gives me this wall of text:

My first computer is like 17 years old and it’s still in daily use. It is a custom build gaming rig that I paid like 1k€ for back in the day. It has since been upgraded with more RAM, SSD, and has a brand new GPU aswell. I may need to invest in a new CPU soon too as my core2quad is really starting to show it’s age now. The main issue however is the RAM as it only supports DDR2 and finding compatible 4Gb sticks was really hard and out of the 4 one seems to be faulty and makes it crash so I only have 3 of them in use. After I upgrade the motherboard aswell I don’t consider it the same computer anymore as it has almost none of the original parts.
It’s copy and pasting 5 lines into the terminal and hitting enter. It’s not that hard. If it’s not worth the 15 seconds of ‘work’ you probably don’t need the software that badly.
Telling people to just run random code they found on the internet and don’t understand is really bad advice.
The thing with our current hypersonic missiles is that they’re only hypersonic during the transit. They don’t hit the target at hypersonic speeds. Traveling at those speeds creates plasma around the missile which prevents communication with airplanes, satellites or ground based radars. You also have to high up in the atmosphere where air is thin or otherwise your missile is going to turn into a fireball way before it reaches the target. This is what also prevents you from attaching a seeker into the front of the missile; that would melt aswell.
This is why Ukraine has shot down Russian “hypersonic missiles” with the US patriot system even though that should be impossible. It is impossible while the missile is still hypersonic but that’s not when you intercept it. You wait for it to get closer and slow down first. That’s why Kinzhal doesn’t really count as a hypersonic weapon or if it does then so does the German V-2 from the 40’s.
Really appreciate your replies dude. So many are being a bit of an jerks here, but you (and few other) have been really helpful.
Thanks for the explanation. However trying to run the first command gives me sudo: curl: command not found
So I’m stuck right there in the first step lol
I’m giving Linux a chance because people here recommended that I do and now you’re telling me to use Windows.
That’s even more confusing.
I just don’t get why on windows and mac I can download the app from their site, install it and it just works but on Linux I have to do everything thru terminal. It’s not that I can’t get it done but it just seems insane to me that it has to be this difficult.
Yeah I tried proton 8 and 7 too and no difference. I had this exact same issue in win7 too before I switced to Linux so I don’t think it’s an issue with proton.
