Gaza is holding a mass funeral for around 100 Palestinians whose remains were recently recovered from beneath the rubble of destroyed homes in Gaza City’s Al-Zaytoun neighborhood, the majority women and children.
Palestinian journalists reported that the remains included 70 children.
Civil Defense crews spent days recovering the dead largely by hand amid severe equipment shortages and ongoing restrictions. Among them were 55 people recovered from a single family home struck by an Israeli airstrike on 19 November 19, 2023, while sheltering more than 60 displaced Palestinians.
Families gathered for the funeral nearly three years later, laying the victims to rest amid candles, flowers, and Palestinian flags, finally bringing relatives a measure of closure.
