Chinese researchers have for the first time confirmed the existence of the glueball, an entirely new form of matter, according to the Institute of High Energy Physics (IHEP) under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). This finding comes after 15 years

The standard model of particle physics holds that gluons can attract each other and bind together to form an entirely new kind of particle – the glueball. However, such a particle had not been discovered in any previous experiments.

    this is potentially big, actually.

        Maybe not impossible? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glueball#Mass_and_parity

Glueballs are predicted by quantum chromodynamics to be massive, despite the fact that gluons themselves have zero rest mass in the Standard Model.

These masses are on the same order of magnitude as the masses of many experimentally observed mesons and baryons, as well as to the masses of the tau lepton, charm quark, bottom quark, some hydrogen isotopes, and some helium isotopes.

You can tell China discovered it because they didn’t name it some ridiculous thing like Infineon or Ultimatrix
