The Taliban turned against the US, why wouldn’t Al-Qaeda? Especially when the US is in decline and on its way out of the region. Turkey isn’t going anywhere and makes for a much more reliable sponsor. Jolani is a murderous thug but he is also an opportunist rat who sees which way the wind is blowing.
