Every country (or every leader) is protecting their interests in the way they see fit. If Iran was a superpower (whose leader thought they were invincible), they would do the same.
Believe it or not, Iran is not an oligarchy of finance capital (with taste for children). How could you say they would do the same when they’re clearly different? It’s an insane what if to just say that Iran and anyone else would do the same when these are vastly different peoples and cultures.
Also what’s the point in discussing these what ifs if the US is literally doing it in real life? Going deeper is a fun excercise but ultimately meaningless when there are nations currently doing crimes against humanity.
Iran is doing crimes against humanity according to my news feed. At least they did about 10 years ago, when I was a reddit user. Can you tell me what Iran is, if it’s not an oligarchy? Have you been there, or is that just wishful thinking?
Iran is a nation that has been under siege for decades by the most powerful and brutal regime on earth, the US. The measures and forms it takes cannot be understood without acknowledging that it is a state on a perpetual state of emergency.
End the war, pay reparations and lift the blockade, then you can criticize it’s internal politics.
