I hope that my rooted One UI 7 doesn’t get the update through some backdoor in the Google Play Services package… Or the next time I unblock Google Play to update the very few paid apps that I use…
Time to “divest” from Google’s garbage (and other “big tech” garbage):

Etc…
Nice! Especially the Liberux, as it seems like it’s going to have “jailed” Android for apps that need that environment. Maybe that’s similar to what Graphene does with their sandboxed Google Play Services?
If my Samsung is shot (and shut) down during this year, I’m leaning toward a Liberux, Jolla or a Fairphone with Ubuntu Touch, in that order.
Just reinstall the OS without gapps. Done.
In my country, that’s a hard bargain, as we need certain apps that rely on gapps to identify ourselves in formal dealings with nation, county and city actors. But yeah, Graphene’s sandboxed Google Play Services would be a good start for me.
I highly doubt a smartphone is a requirement. They probably have an alternative you’re not considering
The general attitude is that you are required to be digitally literate and that you have the “required” equipment. Just like many businesses nowadays take it for granted that you have a card to pay with.
Most governments have laws that force companies to accept legal tender.
Big tech has gotten crappy. I wish they would stop with their greed and bullcrap.
Just switch to Pixel. I’ve got mine (9a) for around 500€.
Ironically, Google Pixel
Yeah, I’ve had my eyes on a Pixel for a few months now. Maybe I could even keep my Samsung an compartmentalize shit: pixel for private use, Samsung for google shit
Is that a joke?
Unironically, the Google Pixel is ironically one of the best phones you can get to de-Google your smartphone experience. For now.
Specifically if you use GrapheneOS. Pretty easy to install, I’ve been on it for a couple months now and it’s great.
Clown world. They’re one update away from banning that any second you’re putting too much trust in them
