So, I was about to pay for a lunch using NFC, but then I checked on my phone and the only NFC apps it has are Google and Samsung’s.
Which apps I can use to do NFC that will not sell all my bank data?
A lot of cards have tap to pay. I would do that first before I let a company scan my credit card.
I forgot my card at that day
Just tap your card. I’m baffled about why people think it’s important to use their phones.
Tapping your card shares the card number. Paying with your phone doesn’t.
I will check on that but I had thought that the point of moving from mag stripe to chip cards was to stop exposing the card number. The is instead a 2 way encrypted conversation between the chip and the bank server. I had expected the phone app to do about the same thing.
Also, payment terminals (I was once pretty familiar with them) are likely to be more secure than phones.
Yeah you’re right. Mastercard says tapping your card also sends a tokenized version or the card number.
I forgot my card at home and I was at school.
Are you referring to “tap to pay” with your phone that uses NFC?
If so, you are out of luck. Only options (at least in the USA) are Apple, Google, and Samsung.
It’s also super locked down. You are only allowed to use it if Google or Apple says that your device is authorized. So no root, no custom ROMs. Unless your phone is owned by a corporation and that corporation is blessed by Apple or Google you are out of luck. (There are currently ways around this but the gaps are slowly being closed as older devices are phased out.)
Yep. My bank app does so. And dang.
