Internationalization, basically making your thing accessible in other languages and cultural customs (like twelve and a half being 12,5 and anything related to fucking dates).

LFF, as an example was popular in LOTRO were groups were flavored as fellowships in game.
It does sometimes mean that though it’s more common to see it as just trying to assemble a group. If you’re looking for more you’ll usually use something like LF1M, LF2M etc…
I hate LFG because gamers can’t agree on how to spell it or what it means… Sometimes it’s spelled LFP, LFF or LFM… And sometimes it means “Looking for Guild”.
i18n I know it’s not technically an acronym but what a fucking obscure way to write a word that’s going to be constantly around non-english speakers. All the other ones in this family are also quite obnoxious but i18n is especially awful.
This list gets progressively more FTW.
What sorts of things do you tend to use it for in your day job?
Rechargeable AA batteries have become much more accessible… And imo far fewer devices that we use take replaceable batteries. It’s much more common for devices to just have built in rechargeable batteries.
Postgres, Postgres has always been extremely ahead of the curve… Even when it was Ingres.
Absolutely VLC, VLC was excellent at what it does before codec issues were even that widespread.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you prefer Twitch or YouTube for watching live streams?
0·3 年前YouTube, but there are a few creators that only stream on Twitch that I like. The content is more important than the platform to me.
Also, weirdly, I find Twitch generally has the less toxic chat - Twitch as a company tends to be better at policing their platform while YouTube really doesn’t give a shit… Moderators are definitely more impactful, but Google really doesn’t give a shit about moderating.
Don’t forget to pet the net cat.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some items that really aren't worth paying the expensive version for?
0·3 年前Oh, amazon is absolute fucking shit for quality these days. It’s embarrassing how shitty their store is at weeding out imposter products.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What are some items that really aren't worth paying the expensive version for?
0·3 年前I’m also on concerta (ADHD highfive) and I’ve found lower efficacy with the generic… I sure wish it was the same though.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Whats something that is only worth getting the expensive version of?
2·3 年前Kitchen knives, definitely. A good knife is a fucking godsend.
Quality underwear (once you’re an adult).
A good office chair (not necessarily one of those expensive as fuck mesh ones - I hate those… But something quality).
Also, I’d distinguish between pointlessly expensive and quality.
Why are we all accumulators?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Should archaeologists cover Pompeii back up when they're done with it?
0·3 年前Sure, leaving the rest to future excavation might make sense… But we already fucked up the portion we dug up… Reburying it will just fuck it up even more.

It depends on the distro but generally Linux is much more secure because it doesn’t have backdoors built in for weird shit like codecs and registration.
