2 years agoI recently started grinding spices by hand with a mortar/pestle and salt/pepper mills, and it really made a difference. Now everything smells very nice, which really made all of the food I prepare much better. Less of a secret ingredient, but it’s usually better to always have fresh spices / ingredients on hand (if possible)
I was working retail checkout on Christmas day several years ago and the store was nearly completely dead (it was near 3pm). My feet were sore and I really wanted to go home to our family reunion with a bunch of cousins and extended family, so I had finished all of my normal responsibilities early, but wasn’t allowed a seat since I had already used my break a few hours prior. My boss then left for a few moments, and a kind customer spoke to me a moment or two as I scanned their items, and asked how I was doing. I said “Alright”, but must not have been very convincing because they offered me a hug on their way out. I left the job the next year, and am in a much better place now with a wonderful boss, but I still remember that hug.
