if it is for a small shop, whatever you’re used to.
For mass deployment, you’ll want to probably use something with proper support

Maybe not a salary… But, maybe a small contribution to each admin on a rotating cycle each month as thanks? As in general, I find volunteers of things never get the thanks they deserve, and long term, eventually, it takes a few small things and it becomes a slog.
I’m not sure if the Admins are paid, but it would be good to have paid admins, who also help post unique content too.
Basically, the lack of paid admins is what killed Reddit over time (everyone was doing the work for free).
But I also agree bounties could also be good.
Or a meetup event to meet other Beehaw users (here in australia of course)
I went to Reddit today and in a subreddit, they were literally joking about firebombing someone and how it would be disappointing if someone did it.
Reddit is basically truth social 2.0 at this point
You’re welcome.
By the way, not sure if you’re a linux user, but if you were wondering why Redhat is locking down the source code a bit, its probably thanks to oracle too. Oracle Unbreakable Linux was basically just a rebrand of Redhat (I’m guessing they just charge less for support to undercut redhat). It’s not because Redhat are bad for the community or greedy, but because they can’t compete if Oracle screws them that way
So Oracle is also screwing over Linux now too.
Also, its now a dogs breakfast too. Whenever I drop by there, a lot of the subreddits have become ultra right wing and weird or bot infested, where even the aussie subs are pro-gun zones now (despite very few people in AU actually giving a toss about guns).
It went from being somewhat toxic to toxic all over. And the only people who will want to buy it, will be asking for more ads, more posts which are actually adverts, and more BS.
There are so many alternatives to Reddit now too (like lemmy) which are likely to slowly eat into it’s market share
Pretty much… Mitchell baker gets paid 7 million.
That being said though, just to play devils advocate, she was there since the beginning apparently (at Netscape). So, she actually seems to somewhat deserve it. And she’s well educated too and I get the impression she’s also a good person too
Whereas, you look at the Oracle CEO, and she’s what you expect (donates a lot of money to the right wing, banker, etc)
The big one for me is running mobile apps as an integrated experience
Waydroid simply doesn’t work well yet.
Streamdeck support too.
VMware install isnt as seamless as it should be
Windows tiling in gnome, but, magnet for Macos is far better than both
Here in Australia, you can literally file your tax now for free in a few clicks using the government website. If you wait a few weeks, everything for most people is prefilled except deductions
It’s absolutely awesome
This isn’t even a debate lol…
Stuff like CoPilot is awesome at making code that looks right, but contains subtle wrong variable names it’s self-created, or bad algorithms.
And that’s not the big issue.
The big issue is when you get distracted for 5 mins, you come back, and you forget that you’ve been working through that block of AI generated code (which looks correct), so you forget to check the rest of it, and it makes it into the source code, before testing later, only to realise its screwed because its AI generated code.
The other big issue, is that its only a matter of time until people start to get fed up, and start feeding these systems dodgy data to de-train them and make them worse / with backdoors.
Honestly, the only thing keeping X relevant, is news articles at this time.
Doesn’t make sense at all.
I keep seeing Redhat used an example, but they contribute a HUGE amount a source code and projects… Pipewire, systemd, rpm, DBUS and even the main XML addon for VSCode, etc.
I don’t think people realise how much poop linux would be swimming in if they went bankrupt…
Redhat are literally one of the big reasons why Linux is so seamless these days, and they’re solving a lot of the big problems. And from my understanding, they still contribute the code seperately anyway.
That being said, I agree money needs to go towards developers. However, a lot of them end up hired at major companies. And I don’t think this is the way to approach it
And thats the thing. I don’t need merch in return personally…
There’s plenty of community funded radio stations out there, and all you get is a sticker sometimes (you don’t neccessarily do it for merch, but a sticker would be cool actually).
I’m just tired of toxic Social networks and news sites. I’m tired of news sites too which focus 100% on celeb gossip than normal people.
So, I think it would be a cool way to improve the network, improve morale amongst the mods and allow the system to scale well without mods feeling unappreciated
