From Wikipedia: “Bugonia was a folk practice in the ancient Mediterranean region based on the belief that bees were spontaneously generated from a cow’s carcass.” So in the old days, they saw bees coming out of rotting cows (maybe these here vampar bees) and said “that’s where bees come from”
