Wasn’t Tsoi, Anti-AES?
Was he explicitly anti-communist? No.
Was he part of a western-origin music movement susceptible to western influence and vibes, which is a musical genre called Rock? Yes.
I would say more or less he’s a product of his time, since his band got most of their popularity during Perestroika and Glasnost, under the policies of revisionist Gorbachev’s gov’t.
There’s a reason why they allowed him to do two movies, Assa and Igla
But then again, I’m being charitable. But I’m just saying, if you’re going to shoot down the man’s name himself, I tell you, save your hate more for Gorbachev and the second capitalist economy.
I haven’t done much research on him outside of listening to the Black Album because that’s just such good shit, and I do despise Gorbachev for what he did more than anything, It’s hard to tell anything when there’s not much anti-Soviet sources on him.
It’s also a little hard since he died before the USSR actually collapsed (age 28, 1990). Maybe he would’ve matured, maybe not. But it’s not like he was an explicit hardcore reactionary. For instance, some of his album covers were based on the early soviet Avant-garde.
The communist band Silenzium strings has done some covers of his songs though, including one of his most fanous songs, Pereman [translated as “change” which is a common Easter Europe protest song nowadays]
Yeah I’ve listened to a lot of the covers, my favorite album is still the Posthumous release one from 91’, so many good tunes on there.
