There seems to be a lot of microblogging going around, but I want a place to put my writings that are much bigger. I know that having my own website is also an option, but I’m finding filtering ethical hosting providers and website builders to be a lot more difficult than I thought it would be, and I’m afraid that even if I find them, it’s going to be too expensive.

Wordpress has an ActivityPub plugin to federate your content with Mastodon, Pixelfed, Misskey, and others, and will push their comments back to you.
Would you recommend WordPress as a hosting service? I’m not able to understand the structure of it all to figure out if it:'s ethical and what with the recent fights with WP Engine and stuff, I’m unsure how it all actually works.
any cheap vps, I like racknerd newyear deal 60$ a year for 4 core 6gb and 160gb ssd is solid, then grab any free panel like cloudpanel and follow the short tutorial to install, now you have an easy way to install wordpress and manage domains (I prefer enhance for wordpress but its 5$ a month up to 30 sites unlimited servers then price increases)
enhance is fire because its easy to connect multiple servers so you can buy the cheapest deals you find, then migration is easy and backups work well, are automated and easy. Next update this week or next week will make the backuprole installation easy, for now it requires having some unmounted volume (which is easy to setup at hetzner but id just wait 2 weeks for that)
Ghost has been working on adding activitypub support. They just added the ability to “unfollow” in their work in progress implementation.
I like bearblog.dev because it uses static pages. It works perfectly for me both as a main webpage and a blog.
