How can you say this about industry, but not something already publicly owned, like police, fire departments or military? And yes, yes, I know how well some of those are run, BUT, would they be better under private control? Hell no. Something I never see anyone talk about, is how, with all the ‘fingerprinting’ and data collection/analysis these companies do, they already know whether you’re 18 or not. If you’re one of those people super against hijab, do a say, duckduckgo image search for “women in headscarves”. You will see many cultures represented. They aren’t all Muslim, even. Which ones are ‘bad’ and which ‘good’? Would you also ban Orthodox Christians/Jews, or Hindu women from covering their hair? Rasta women?

What is an adult? It’s a culturally-defined concept which you don’t meet all the criteria for, and that’s why you feel this way. There are certain markers that you don’t possess. That’s OK. I’m in a pretty similar situation to you, and I also don’t feel “like an adult”. Embrace it. Look for similarly situated people that you can admire.

Be careful of accepting some of the criticism of Signal in this thread. For most of us, we have to make choices about secure comms from subject matter experts. Almost all the criticism I see of Signal comes from anonymous or otherwise random users online. If you believe in such a thing as expertise, please seek it out when evaluating something like this.
