Many people like Canada compared to the USA for its more socialist policies like healthcare and social safety nets. These systems aren’t perfect in Canada but are certainly better than not having them. The problem is we can’t call it socialism because many on our far right will twist anything with socialism included in it to equal literal nazis. A lot of those same far right also push for more police power, deportation, and overall a national “white Canadians” world view. Its fucking stupid.

The lab is a much more controlled environment. I trust a lab tech to dispose of the tips as per protocol, which could reduce the number of tips that end up as litter.

So many people denied any ties this administration had to that documentation. Even up in canada i had idiots spouting “oh thats just a think tank manifesto none of it will ever actually happen, the Republicans don’t even support it.”

I know when i cut out excess refined sugar and barely ate any candy, fruit suddenly tasted better and sweeter. Now things like cola or candy are too sweet for me to enjoy. I’ll maybe have a handful of candy when previously i could eat a whole meals worth.

I think the spiders could be manageable with the right gear. Maybe something like the top half of a bee or a bug suit. If i couldn’t feel the spiders crawling on me and they can’t get on my neck or face i think i could get used to them chilling while i harvest.

Some areas have mushrooms that are so similar the only reliable way to identify them is using a spore print.

Plants and animals tend to have more distinct identifying features like leaf patterns, bark texture or hair color.

YMMV but i still see lots right around dusk at the edges of wetland areas. Not denying they are threatened but there are still some places they are able to live and those places should be protected. Wetlands do a lot more for us ecologically and hydrologically speaking than just fireflies anyway and are one of the most important ecosystems to be protected.

I’m not 100% sure but the fish kinda looks like a lingcod, also known as a burbot.

Fossil fuels are already protected and subsidized beyond economic sensibility for the profitably of oil barons and corrupt polliticians. Until the oil barons cannot afford bribery and still turn a profit the USA will be hooked is what I’m getting at. They’d rather keep the exploitation going until collapse happens than find a way to transition to cleaner energy sources.

Edit: I’d also like to add, it isn’t just fossil fuels setting the USA back, it’s also the development pattern. Even if everything went electric today with green energy, the USA would be wasting tons of that energy due to cultural and devlopmental patterns. This isn’t just an oil issue, it is also a land use, zoning, gabage/waste and 100s of other things that are just so damm profitable we can’t stop.

Until it is more profitable in the short term to build sustainability, America won’t do it. Profits over a liveable planet.

I’d try to strip and clean any time I come home in that environment. Set up your entranceway so you can easily remove your clothes and shoes and put them in a bag or bin. Santitize the entranceway, wash your contaminated clothing, and wash yourself frequently.

I would wear long pants, ideally waterproof ones or at least thick enough to stop splashes from getting on your skin. You could also wear a mask while outside to help keep your fingers away from your mouth and nose.

Put that cost pressure on then invest heavily into public transit that does not rely on tires. If you have high frequency service (at least every 20 minutes, ideally closer to 5) then relying on a tram schedule isnt really a big deal. If the tram has priority at intersections, it is much easier to stay on schedule.

The worst about this particular sign is it switches between dark colors and bright colors, which seems to make the blinding light even worse and more distracting. Somehow a company’s right to advertise is more important than safety, even admist a crackdown on distracted driving. Only the phone screen is bad i guess? Cantdo anything about outdoor signs or auto manufacturers putting ipads into the dash.

We have fucking digital billboards in my town which is basically an outdoor TV. It is so bright at night it can light up the street. It’s way too distracting to have on a roadway, people get distracted trying to to watch a full advertisement. The ads are similar to how fast food menus are constantly changing and showing close ups of food and deals. This should 100% be illegal next to a roadway, hell they are diatracting enough inside the store sometimes.

Can you really call a sea of single family homes and overgrown backyards a city? I get that cities get bigger, but if we are going to pave over farmland lets fit more than 5-10 people per acre.

Yet here in Canada, we pave over our farmland to build McMansions and strip malls. Sure we can feed our own country and then some still, but is this really the best use of such high quality arable land?
