I was skeptical of them at first when looking for 2nd-life OS’s. There were a lot of sketchy looking and not really “user-friendly” sites/forums (postmarketOS being one of them) that I avoided but decided to try it anyways. It’s been fun and I’ve enjoyed having a decent OS to tinker with and see what capabilities I can get out of defunct equipment.

If I could get a secure smartphone use out of them I’m gonna be ecstatic. Been staring at phones and GrapheneOS for the past two years but glad I didn’t jump onto something yet.

I feel so proud of postmarketOS! I’ve been using them for 2nd life uses for phones, tablets, and chromebooks with very minimal problems. It’s like having an obscure band you follow all of a sudden getting mentioned everywhere and I couldn’t be happier for the project (like the 3rd time on Lemmy this week alone I’ve seen them mentioned).

If you have some scrap equipment throw it on and report your findings! There’s a lot of testing that needs done and information needs to flow. I’ve done a “recipe” notebook with an old chromebook, a tablet for easy video viewing I can send videos to (instead of making my partner come to the comp), and like 3 other devices that I haven’t finished with but pmOS will be a part of it.

Join their testing team if you have devices that aren’t listed! Unlike most requirements, if it’s not listed that just means it probably hasn’t been tested…not that it doesn’t work on your device. (they could probably also use some editors for their text instructions, it’s quite back and forth with links trying to find proper instructions).

Good information, I’ve been doing the temperature thing more and more but for cooking I haven’t switched (gonna have to refigure the food safety guidelines so I’m not putting myself in danger on that one).

I think you’ve convinced me to officially do a marathon, that seems like a great and healthy way to consider the larger distances and wrap my head around it!

Just wish signs in the states were posted with KPH as well but that’s extremely rare, I still associate maps with mileage and arrivals based on MPH so will be harder to transition that then anything else I imagine (120 miles away so about 2 hours on a hwy going 60 mph which is average for states).

Good idea with the hands, I kinda already had this with the other system (different methods though) so now I gotta do the new ones and sear that into my brain. It could be useful at times, in my experience it’s just two people trying to remember this strange ass poem and end up having to look it up anyways.

I was confused on the “cup” part because I wasn’t sure if you meant like a typical drinking glass or the actual cup-customary measurement until I looked at it (another reason i dislike the measurement system…a cup of coffee is so damn vague at times). I’ll definitely remember the torso one.

The first 4k video of gameplay I saw blew my mind lol. You can actually see depth and aren’t confused squinting at a low res model trying to figure out what you’re looking at from a small distance. I was shocked when we first played BOTW and it’s problems running properly (lots of lag for a game made for the system), this title made me realize the switch is just dead to me now.

damn, that sounds like you were part of a case study in your childhood. Is there a difference with how your brother turned out and yourself? Interested to know if you picked up skills like DIY and stuff while your brother isn’t capable of those things.

I think you’re just gonna have to double-down on returns if you want that in-person experience online without jumping through hoops. Just make sure to shop online at places that have a good policy, some clothing websites know this is how it works so their policy is setup to compliment that (free returns, awesome customer service, decent return time policy).

Think of the mail delivery as your personal entourage, they bring you clothing to try on at your leisure (which you’ve pre-selected the style/etc) and you just give them back if you’re not satisfied. You can schedule pick-ups easily without needing to go to the post office every week if the company has a decent enough packaging system (some even send return slips/packages or are printable etc).

To make it easier, I would suggest getting into the measurements of your body. It’s not like your body is going to dramatically change from day to day so it should be something you’ll be able to monitor and get used to real quick (male centric video/female centric video). It’s a little more work, but will last you a lifetime as a skill to better understand your body. It will probably help lower the number of returns as well since you’ll be better informed.

It always makes me wonder what delicious flavors nature has provided that I’m missing out on. Just like Banana’s in the states, we have a “main” variety of apple which is “Red Delicious” (it’s just a name, not delicious). This abomination is the prettiest picturesque apple you’ve ever seen, but it tastes like cardboard compared to any other apple species. I wish we still had access to all the different varieties of banana’s that used to be around but guess we’ve fucked that one up.

Some helpful caption/subtitles is for videos which don’t have dialogue but add information to what’s going on. One example is primitive technology but there are plenty of other skill presentations/tutorials where the how and why is spelled out in the subtitles while the actual audio is just peaceful melodies to enjoy watching someone work too.

ok, I was gonna be facetious and post the video mockingly but it’s actually kinda funny. It seems from the clips it actually tries to follow the ball but keeps getting distracted by the referees big beautiful bald head. Future AI-AR(artificial resources instead of HR) discussions probably like, “wtf guys? You told me to track these things!?!”

This is the poor man’s tech work-around and can indeed confirm it works lol. You are limited by your services upload size though so beware, you might find yourself having to do multiples and then it’s just starting to get inconvenient.
