It was hilarious, and less of a control issue and more of a “2 death scenarios executing at the same time.”

Way back in the day, Tomb Raider, there was this pit, with a break away floor, and water beneath it.

Fell, hit the platform breaking her neck, then the platform dropped her in the water, twitching and drowning. It was horrifying!

My guess would be, assuming nothing nefarious, 😉 They’re easy to write, cheap to produce, and draw an audience. So from a media perspective, what’s not to like?

It’s been this way since I was a kid. The cynic in me says it’s intentional to desensitize us to the police state.

1. Cops arresting criminals.
2. Detectives investigating crimes and arresting criminals.
3. Lawyers prosecuting criminals.
4. Hospitals treating victims and criminals.

That’s easily, what? 70% of television? I’m too lazy to look at actual TV schedules, but god, it feels that way. The Law and Order shows ALONE.

Each story is pretty much self contained, there is a certain progression from one to the next, but they were each written and published independently, then collected together as “The Gunslinger”.

The rest of the books are actual novels.

Book 2 starts right where the last story in the Gunslinger ends and it’s off to the races!

The important thing to remember is that the first book was written as separate short stories. It was never intended as a novel, novel. I think a lot of people have trouble with it because of that. Don’t think of them as chapters in a book, think of them as separate stories.

Little Sisters of Eluria fits in here as well, also a separate story.

First time I read it I hit “And they never saw Stu Redman again.” I was f’ing BROKEN.

But good news, friend, you’re ready for the Dark Tower books. :)
